Physical Education Make Up Policy
District-wide PE Makeup Policy
School Board policy requires all teachers to have a process for making up work from excused and “no-count” absences.
-
Excused and “no-count” absences include medical absences, college visits, counselor meetings, and religious holidays.
-
Teachers create processes for students to make up work when students are absent.
-
Make-up processes are slightly different based on the course, and are communicated to students at the beginning of the year.
-
Allowing students to make up work from those types of absences ensures they have access to take tests, turn in missed work, and show competency after they miss the class.
To ensure all PE teachers are providing the same level of makeup opportunities to students, all PE classes are following the same makeup procedures for all students.
-
Students who wish to make up participation points from a missed PE class may do so, per School Board policy.
-
PE is primarily a participation-based course, so make-up opportunities are participation-based.
-
PE make-ups can be done after school or during normal school hours during assessment weeks.
-
By the end of the semester in PE, in most cases a student would need to have eight absences before their grade is impacted without a make-up.
Parents who have questions about makeup policies should contact the teacher directly.
