P-EBT Cards Received by Families

Many of our families have started receiving a P-EBT card in the mail that they were not expecting. The district was surprised to hear this as well, so we did some research to find out what these cards are. Here is a link to the Illinois Department of Human Services page that describes the cards. In summary, here is what you need to know:

  1. Each family at WTHS should receive $391 per eligible child. This amount was set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services.
  2. Because all WTHS students were able to receive free meals during the pandemic, all WTHS students are eligible and are supposed to receive the $391.
  3. Eligibility is not connected to a family’s current financial situation.
  4. If you haven’t received the card in the mail, expect to receive it in the coming weeks.
  5. If you have questions about this benefit you can contact the Illinois Department of Human Services at (833) 621-0737 or use the DHS P-EBT General Inquiry Request form.
  6. We cannot collect the cards and redistribute them.
