Building Safety
At Warren D121, safety is always our priority. Students, teachers, and all staff members should feel comfortable learning and working in a safe environment.
If there is a safety concern: We work closely with our law enforcement partners to determine the quickest and most appropriate response.
-
Our threat-assessment protocol ensures the best decisions are made with the information we have at the moment.
-
Not all investigations will result in a school evacuation or family notification.
If there is a lockdown or evacuation: We prioritize student and staff safety before communicating with families. Communication involving school emergencies and school safety will be shared on a case-by-case basis with support from the administration, emergency personnel, security and communications teams.
-
You will likely receive some information from your student before we send out official communication. This is normal with student access to technology.
-
We will communicate as soon as possible by auto call, email, and/or text messaging. Emails will typically have the most detailed information.
-
Please do not call the school during a lockdown or evacuation. Phone calls divert resources away from student safety.
-
Please do not try to enter school property during a lockdown or evacuation. Additional adults on campus create complexities and divert attention from student safety.
Our partners: Warren Township High School works closely with the Gurnee Police Department, the Gurnee Fire Department, the Lake County Sheriff's Office, and the State of Illinois on our emergency procedures to ensure that we are prepared for any emergency situation.

How We Prepare
Every summer, school administration reviews safety plans and goes through safety training in partnership with our School Resource Officers from the Gurnee Police Department.
-
The training includes how to respond in different types of scenarios, including threats of violence.
-
All staff receive safety training before the first day of school and review how to respond in the event of a safety concern.
-
We conduct multiple safety drills with students throughout the year.

- Kids will be kids, so it’s safest to assume that a curious, impulsive or determined child or teen could find and handle an unsecured gun, even if they’ve been told not to.
- When guns aren’t properly stored, tragedy can strike—whether it’s a child finding a firearm and injuring or killing themselves (intentionally or unintentionally), or someone stealing it and using it to commit crime.
- The Be SMART message emphasizes the importance of secure gun storage. Think of secure gun storage as just another step you can take to help protect your family and community.
