GREAT HOMECOMING!!...AND THE FALL PLAY IS HERE!!

SPIRIT WEEK AND HOMECOMING were fantastic!
Thanks to all of our students, staff and alumni for incredible turnouts at all of our games, the school assemblies, the parade and student dance on Saturday evening.  The Centennial theme of Homecoming certainly helped to provide a sense of community for all past, present and future Blue Devils!  Having a successful Homecoming week also sets a great tone for the remainder of the year and provides for tremendous spirit at WTHS!
Make sure you don’t miss our Fall WTHS Theatre production of Over the River and Through the Woods playing at our Almond Black Box on October 6-8. Our young actors and actresses have been working hard to kick off our 2016-17 Warren Theatre program.

Go Devils!!

SPIRIT WEEK & HOMECOMING NEXT WEEK!

A special thanks to our Spanish National Honor Society for hosting their annual Culture Fest this week.  The students had a very high level of excitement about the games, dancing, and of course authentic food. Our WTHS Spanish NHS students always put on activities that are second to none, and Ms. TaylorBoehm provides extraordinary leadership for this WTHS club!

SPIRIT WEEK AND HOMECOMING ARE NEXT WEEK, and we are so excited to be celebrating our 2016 Homecoming with a Through the Decades theme. Thanks to Mrs. Lainio, Mr. Karnstedt and all of our Student Council members for all the work they put in to prepare for what will certainly be a great week.
Our Centennial Homecoming Festivities begin September 26th and run through October 1st…check out all there events at the WTHS Centennial pages!

THANKS SIX FLAGS!

Thanks to Six Flags for your great hospitality in allowing WTHS to host our first ever exclusive event at Great America on Saturday.  The weather turned out absolutely perfect, and all those that attended enjoyed a fantastic day of fun with family and friends on the coasters and other rides.  Many people stopped by our Centennial Traveling Museum loved to look at the pictures reflect on the many great memories at WTHS.
A special thanks to the Gurnee District 56 Band students who kicked the day off with a wonderful performance. The hour of music they shared was tremendous, and we cannot wait until these fine young musicians are Blue Devils!  Also, a special shout out to our Giggles & Bits improve troupe who put on three shows, each one unique, for the entertainment of park guests.
Homecoming is quickly approaching, and we are so excited to be celebrating our 2016 Homecoming with a Through the Decades theme. Our Centennial Homecoming Festivities begin September 26th and run through October 1st…check out all there events at the WTHS Centennial pages!

2016 WTHS OPEN HOUSE!

Thanks to the very large number of parents and guardians who were able to make it to Open House at the Almond Campus this past Thursday.  Open House hopefully provided parents with information to help their children be successful this year in their courses. It also demonstrated the ongoing teamwork that is necessary between home and school to help students maximize their growth and achievement!
The SAT informational session that took place for junior parents before the Almond Open House was packed, indicating the interest and support parents have regarding college entrance tests.  Our current class of juniors are fortunate in that the SAT and ACT will both be free this year to juniors, as students will have both test scores to select from as they do some college application pre-planning next summer.
I look forward to seeing many of our 9th and 10th grade students’ parents at O’Plaine Open House on September 1st!

WHAT A COUPLE OF DAYS!

What a fantastic couple of days Friday and Saturday brought our students and community in regards to fun activities to bring us together and help us celebrate the Centennial!  On Friday morning, our Almond staff and students united for a (necessarily) rushed and exciting creation of “WTHS” outside the fieldhouse before returning inside for an excellent back to school assembly and Centennial video. The quickly approaching rain made everyone very task oriented, and when we all got a little wet, it was certainly a unique and fun experience.

During the afternoon, our O’Plaine staff and students had their opportunity for a group photo in creating the “100” at the stadium, and we had perfect weather.  Our Blue Devil joined in the fun, and thanks to everyone for singing Happy Birthday to Warren, for 100 Years of Excellence.

The Varsity Bears-High School Takeover was such a success on Saturday and a huge thanks to the Chicago Bears organization for choosing WTHS for such an amazing day!  The weather turned out perfect, and the several thousand community members and Bears fans that turned out witnessed a great NFL practice, and wonderful performances by many of our student performance groups!

It was an amazing two days of collaboration and celebration!

SHORT TERM EXCHANGES...THANKS GURNEE ROTARY

Rotary International sponsors exchange programs for students to experience international travel and exposure to new cultures on a regular basis.  Some of these exchanges are for an entire school year.  Others are shorter term where students spend about a month abroad during the summer months and their “partner” student spends about a month in the USA.
This week we had two pairs of international “sisters” visit the Rotary Club of Gurnee.  Taylor and Maddie, WTHS students, brought Eve (from Scotland) and Maria (from Spain) to our weekly meeting and the excitement from all four girls was evident as they talked of the places they had visited abroad and the fun they had experienced. This program is a wonderful opportunity to expose students to the power of foreign travel in a very efficient and creative manner.  Thanks Gurnee Rotary!!
