District 121 Announces New Superintendent of Schools
The Board of Education is pleased to announce that Dr. John
P. Ahlgrim, has been hired to serve as the Superintendent of Schools beginning
July 1, 2015. He will fill the position currently held by Dr. Mary Perry Bates, who has led the District since 2012 and will be retiring
at the end of this school year.
The WTHS School Board is excited to have a person of John
Ahlgrim’s talent and experience join our team as the new Superintendent.
John brings years of experience as a teacher, building administrator and
Superintendent to the Warren team and we all feel he is capable of leading
Warren into the future.
With 28 years of experience in education, Dr. Ahlgrim is
currently the Superintendent of Schools at Zion Elementary School District 6, a
position he has held since 2008. Before taking that position, he served
for 14 years in leadership roles at Mundelein High School including
Principal/Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Mathematics
Instructor, and coach for football, baseball, basketball and track. He
began his education career teaching math at Holy Cross High School in Chicago,
Chicago Public Schools and Libertyville High School.
“I am honored and excited to be joining the leadership team
in District 121,” Dr. Ahlgrim said. “In meeting with the Board of
Education, district and school leaders, and staff and community
representatives, there is a very evident sense of pride in the past, present
and future of Warren. There is a very strong culture of excellence at
WTHS, and the focus on collaboration and student success in and out of the
classroom is very powerful. Dr. Perry Bates is certainly to be thanked
and commended for her fine leadership to District 121.”
District 121’s Superintendent Search Committee conducted a
national search for the incoming superintendent. The process included an
online survey, interviews and focus groups to develop a candidate profile that
served as a guide during candidate screening and subsequent interviews.
The search firm received applications from 39 candidates and narrowed the field
to six semi-finalists who interviewed with the Search Committee. The top
two candidates returned for interviews with District administration, union
representatives, parents and community members and their feedback was provided
to the Search Committee to take into consideration for the final
